What Is THCO?

Introducing THC-O (Also Known as tetrahydrocannabinol-o-acetate )

Initially, there were delta 9 THC goods on the market, and then there were delta 8 THC products on the market, and now there is delta 10 THC. There are a plethora of marijuana-derived THC compounds on the market, so it can be difficult to believe that there is yet another one gaining widespread attention, seemingly out of nowhere. It is an abbreviation for THC-O-acetate, a cannabinoid that is so distinct from the other three cannabinoids described above that it is easy to forget that it is a cannabis derivative while enjoying its distinct effects.

Because this new molecule is a precursor to Delta-8, it has the potential to be separated and used in a variety of formulations. vape cartridges, disposables, and even gummies Something worth noting is that it has a potency that is three times greater than ordinary Delta 9 THC. Yes, it is 300 percent more potent than conventional THC.

One strong contender to THC fame as the most psychoactive cannabinoid is tetrahydrocannabinol-o-acetate. Also known as THC-O-Acetate, THC Acetate or ATHC, not to be confused with THCA – a precursor to THC, the new cannabinoid is a highly potent, synthetic compound extracted from hemp.

Unlike delta 8 and delta 10, CBC, delta-9, even or CBD, it does not occur naturally in a cannabis plant. It is only an acetylated version of THC that doesn’t exist in a natural form but is synthesized using specialized chemicals under meticulous laboratory conditions and methods.

So, what exactly is tetrahydrocannabinol-o-acetate and how is it made?

For the most part, we think of it as a brand-new cannabinoid, but the reality is that it has been around for decades. When it was first utilized in the 1950s at the Edgewood Arsenal in the state of Maryland, it was part of a military experiment to assess whether or not it might be used as a weapon to incapacitate soldiers on the other side. In animal studies, it was discovered that it significantly reduced muscle function in dogs, even more so than the conventional delta 9 THC generated from marijuana, which was examined.

It is derived from tetrahydrocannabinolic acid (THCA), which is the precursor to tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) before it is decarboxylated. THCA can be used to make tetrahydrocannabinol-o-acetate, which is why the cannabinoid is categorized as synthetic. It can be produced by combining a solution of sulfuric acid with acetic anhydride. When heat is applied to this mixture of substances, a chemical process happens that alters the molecular structure of THCA, resulting in it becoming extremely strong.

What Effects should I expect, and what are the benefits?

Having gained a better grasp of how it functions within the body, let’s take a look at what exactly consumers can expect to experience after consuming or smoking this product

As previously stated, this type of THC is substantially more potent than other forms of the drug. Even though it is more effective, users should anticipate having a comparable experience to that of Delta 9 – you’ll just need a lot less of it to obtain the same effect.

It is believed that it produces a stronger cerebral effect than THC, which means that you may find yourself becoming more creative or introspective as a result of your experience. In fact, many people report having a more spiritual or meditative experience with it than they do with other kinds of psychoactive cannabinoids, such as marijuana or hemp.

One significant difference between this cannabinoid and Delta-9 is that, if consumed in excess, it has the potential to induce psychedelic effects, but Delta-9 does not. A single dose greater than 15 mg is usually considered to be excessive.

The following are some of the most common effects that you may experience:

  • Experiences of the Body and the Mind
  • Happiness
  • Strong High
  • Relaxation
  • Restfulness
  • Psychedelic Experience
  • Spiritual effects
  • Immersiveness

Is it Legal?

The 2018 Farm Bill legally defines hemp as all parts of cannabis plants (that contain less than 0.3% Delta-9 THC), including isomers and derivatives. Delta-8 is both an isomer and a derivative. tetrahydrocannabinol-o-acetate is not an isomer but is legally protected because it is, in fact, a derivative

Though it is considered legal at the federal level, some states have moved to ban it. Check here to see if your state is one of them

Is it Safe to use?

The short answer to this question is yes. While there still needs to be more research done about tetrahydrocannabinol-o-acetate, there is no reason to believe it is any less safe than other forms of THC. However, safety really comes down to being mindful of how much you consume. Since it is so much more potent than other forms of THC, it is imperative to take it slow when first using it.

No matter how much of a tolerance you may have built up for Delta 9, Delta 8, or Delta 10 THC, it may not transfer to THC-O. For this reason, we recommend starting out with only a single puff of a vape or a small serving of edibles until you know how your body will react. Give yourself at least an hour for the full effects to kick in before you go back for a second dose. In short, treat all forms of this cannibinoid as you would a typical edible that takes a little longer to kick in.
